Beth finished the first version of the tile artwork last week. I loaded that art into the PnP this weekend.
Countdown: 78 Days. One of the first things we did after signing Lanterns was contact Beth Sobel about artwork. We had seen her board game artwork (Viticulture), thought her style would work well with this game (gallery), and had a personal recommendation from a friend (Michael Iachini). We started by sending her a Pinterest board of images we had gathered to show her our thoughts on mood, context, and style; I also had a 45-minute phone call to talk about how the game works and what we wanted the art to achieve.
We’ve been working with her for over a month on the tile artwork. She finished the first version of the tile artwork last week. I loaded that art into the PnP, sent it to FedEx Office, and cut out all the tiles this weekend. I will start play-testing with those to make sure the artwork feels right and enhances the game play — and identify any modifications that might be necessary to keep the artwork from getting in the way. Here’s a preview of one tile:
I also placed an order for a few prototype copies with artwork from PrintPlayGames.com, but I’ll write more about that when they arrive.
